Thisnis a great book as an introduction to Geology; it is NOT a Geology text book. It is a good introduction to earth Science for any one interested in the subject but with little or no knowledge of Geology. My one complaint: the author uses the metric system throughout the book BUT there is no information concerning this s: Core descriptions and biostratigraphic analyses suggest that the complex consists of a series of semiautochthonous to fully allochthonous Brent Group rocks now in fault-bounded, rotated blocks and stacked submarine slides.
"GEOGRAPHY CLUB" is based on Brent Hartinger's best-selling critically acclaimed novel: "What am I looking for?" asks year old Russell Middlebrook of himself as he heads off on his newest adventure. Now that the UK Brent Province has reached maturity, this book provides a comprehensive review of the geology and petroleum geology of one of the world’s major petroleum reservoirs. The book provides a wide-ranging coverage of Brent Group ge- ology, including exploration history, structural evolution, sequence stratigraphy, sedimento- logy, diagenesis, palynology, hydrocarbon generation and migration, and petrophysics.
Genre/Form: Electronic books: Additional Physical Format: Print version: Geology of the Brent Group. London: Geological Society ; Tulsa, Okla.: AAPG Bookstore. Use Project Earth Science: Geology to introduce your students to plate tectonics and teach them what causes volcanoes and earthquakes.
Lead explorations of these and other larger-than-the-classroom geological phenomena with the teacher-tested, Standards-based activities. The thickness of the group varies considerably.
In UK well / (Brent Field) it is m, while the Norwegian well 33/ in the Statfjord Field has m of Brent Group sediments. Wells used to illustrate the group on and around the Horda Platform have thicknesses between.
The Brent Group contains considerable thicknesses of carbonaceous shales and lignites. The lignites are very organic rich (% total organic carbon, TOC).
The carbonaceous shales contain predominantly amorphous kerogen. Geology of the Brent field The Brent field lies in the East Shetland Basin, which includes a tilted fault block exposing the eponymous Brent formation beside bounding faults.
The formation let migration from deeper side-by-side kitchen areas where the Kimmeridge clay formation becomes fully mature and releases hydrocarbons.
Situated in the East Shetland Basin, the Brent is the archetype for many of the fields in the area, consisting of a tilted fault block exposing the eponymous Brent formation, next to bounding faults which allowed migration from deeper adjacent "kitchen" areas where the Kimmeridge Clay Formation becomes fully mature and releases hydrocarbons.
An Introduction to Geology. Written by. Chris Johnson, Matthew D. Affolter, Paul Inkenbrandt, Cam Mosher. Salt Lake Community College – Contact the authors at [email protected] with edits, suggestions, or if adopting the book. Abstract: Situated in the southeastern part of the East Shetland Basin, the Alwyn North Field produces oil and gas from Brent Group reservoirs and gas and condensate from the Statfjord Formation.
The structural style is of tilted and eroded fault blocks dipping to the west and aligned north-south conforming to the principal normal fault trend. This report aims to give an overview of the geology and characteristics of the Middle Jurassic Play within the UK North Sea Basin.
Focus is given to two major producing regions; the northern North Sea and the Inner Moray Firth Basin. Representative. Deposition of the Brent Group has been coupled with the growth and erosion of a mid-North Sea dome, as well as with non-dome related tectonics along the northern North Sea rift margins.
As domal uplift related to incipient rifting is commonly associated with subsidence in its vicinity, erosional products tend to accumulate in associated depositional basins that may be a proto-rift, as with the Brent Delta. Whittaker et al. provide an industrial example in the Brent Group (Jurassic), North Sea, in which the distribution of palynomorph types is used to infer the depositional environments and extent of delta progradation during brief intervals of the Jurassic.

The Dunlin Oilfield is located in the East Shetland Basin, km northeast of the Shetland Islands. It lies in UK Blocks /23a and /24a in about ft of water. The field was discovered in June by well / The oil accumulation is trapped, in a north-south oriented, tilted fault block at the western margin of the Viking Graben, at a depth of about ft TVSS.
Gullfaks is a structurally com-plex field with sandstone reservoir units of Cretaceous to Triassic age. The reservoir quality is generally very good, with porosities in the range of 30–35% and per-meability up to several darcies in the most important Brent Group reservoir.
